This has been my go-to place for Korean comfort foods for almost a decade! I bring my closest friends and family here to enjoy the fresh abalone congee and various Korean soups. They hit especially hard on colder nights. The restaurant, which has held its ground since 1974, is rather unassuming, simple, with all focus put into the food. Some of the other restaurants might seem more popular and crowded, but this is the true gem of Koreatown. Aunty Kim is such a sweetheart! She puts her heart and soul into every aspect of your experience. She treats everyone just like family and creates a friendly ambiance for everyone to enjoy. The menu might seem like it has only a few options, but trust me when I say, these are POWERHOUSE dishes that are absolute perfection. The parking situation can be rather intense, so it's best to use the Vallet service or pray for street parking.

I've been going here regularly for about a year now and this place does NOT disappoint!! Still don't understand why it's so underrated. I like to get their samgyetang when I'm sick and it always hits the spot. Their kimchi jiggae is also SUPER worth the money, they add rice cakes and bits of beef, and the flavor of the soup is PERFECT. It's not overly salty and instead has a strong anchovy soup base taste. I also am obsessed with their banchan, the kimchi is always fresh, and the dried radish one is my favorite, it's so sweet and addicting The part that impresses me most is the beef side dish that comes with every meal. It's super tender, perfectly flavored, and I like to drizzle the sauce over the rice... Anyways I live alone in the city so this place feels like a home away from home. Definitely a good mom and pop shop to go to for well done home cooked meals, and the ahjummas working here are super sweet and caring!! I don't like to name names but the more popular restaurant right next to it has had pretty dismal service every time I've gone (and mediocre food imo) so I've stopped going there altogether. I kind of want to keep this place a hidden secret, but they're so good that I had to write a review, which is something I usually don't do

A cozy, simple and home cook style Korean restaurant. Mountain cafe is a casual and approachable place for home cook style of Korean foods. Mostly soups, and simple ban chans(side dishes) but authentic and cravable. The soy-marinated beef stands out and is tender, juicy and meaty. If they sold them by the jar like at Korean markets, I'd buy them from here. We got the kimchi stew and dumpling soup and it was everything we wanted. Yes, you can make these at home but they just taste better here and this is the type of place I'd come if I miss my mom's cooking. The service was quick and efficient and they'll also come by to ask if you want more side-dishes or need anything else. The parking is valet but sometimes it gets very crowded, when it does - I'd recommend parking at the office parking lot across the street. On the evenings and weekends, you can park here for $5. It's a parking lot next to H-mart, you won't miss it. If you're curious about hearty Korean soups, you should check out this place!

Everything on this menu is great however, you must try the 1st dish on the menu. The abalone porridge. Trust me just get it. Add the stewed beef into it. A sleeping giant in K-town. It's been here for decades and will continue to be a landmark.
